Meeting our board: Cindy Glick
Q: How and when did you become acquainted with the co-op? Did you get involved right away – and in what ways? Become a member-owner right away?
A: I joined in December of 2015, after attending a few meetings, joining what was then the Communications Committee.
Q: What prompted you to become a member-owner? What is your number?
A: I joined at the invitation of another member-owner and am member-owner #248. I am interested in the Valley's economic development and in supporting local growers, suppliers and distributors. I think the co-op plays an important role in the community.
Q: Tell us about your decision to run for the board, and what did you hope to bring to the board?
A: I was invited to run for the Board and was voted in. I have been instrumental in raising grant money from various funding sources.
Q: Tell us about your current involvement with the co-op – what responsibilities/roles do you have?
A: I continue to research grant opportunities but it has become more difficult to find granting sources for which the co-op is eligible. I also help with other board activities as I can.
Q: What is gratifying to you as a board member? Why is it important to you to be on the board?
A: Having a larger voice in determining the direction of the co-op and being part of its growth is gratifying, and it is inspirational to work with talented people who are passionate about bringing the co-op vision to fruition.
Q: What's one thing about the board that member-owners and/or community don't know and why is it important they do?
A: I think it's important to remind people that board members are all volunteers who devote a tremendous amount of time
and effort to ensuring the co-op succeeds. It has been a learning experience and labor of love for many board members who have served the co-op over the years.
Q: What would you tell someone who's considering running for our board?
A: Do it because the co-op needs your talent and expertise and you have much to contribute, both at this exciting time when we're so close to opening and for its future success.
Q: What do you like to do outside of your board work – employment, hobbies, family – whatever you'd like to share?
A: I'm a member of the Bethlehem Rotary Club and participate with the Club's community service programs and activities. I have had to cut back my involvement in many areas, however, because of family responsibilities.
